Nominations and Elections

ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOCIAL WORK WITH GROUPS
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROSPECTIVE AASWG BOARD MEMBERS
The Nominations Committee is seeking nominations of AASWG members to the Board of Directors for the Spring 2010 election. This is a wonderful opportunity for group workers to become involved with the Association, to contribute to the development and growth of our organization, and to promote social group work practice, education and research. This year we are seeking nominees for three Members-at-Large. Nominees must have been a member of AASWG for at least one year in order to be nominated.
We are looking for people who bring these leadership qualities:
• Willingness to make a commitment to the AASWG Board;
• Understanding of the diverse areas and different perspectives of social group work practice;
• Ability to bring new ideas and a vision of social group work;
• Commitment to building social group work practice and education in their own communities;
• Record of responsible membership at the Chapter, Community, and/or Professional Organizational levels.
Board members are expected to:
• Attend the symposium of the year in which they are nominated;
• Assume responsibility and follow through on tasks related to committee assignments;
• Attend Board meetings twice a year (usually at the symposium and one fall meeting), and correspond with committee members during the year to pursue the work of the committees.
AASWG Travel Reimbursement:
• AASWG reimburses Board members for part of their travel expenses to the fall meeting (the first $100 of travel costs are assumed by the individual and up to $450 is assumed by AASWG);
• Board members are responsible for their own lodgings for Board and symposia meetings;
• Breakfast and lunch are provided for one day and breakfast is provided the second day of the fall meetings; lunch is provided at the meeting held at the symposia;
• Costs to attend the symposium are not covered by AASWG;
• Some of the local chapters, agencies or schools of social work may be in a position to contribute to travel costs.
In addition to the leadership qualities, the Nominations Committee considers diversity qualifications such as ethnicity, gender, age, geographical representation and a balance between practitioners and academics. If you are interested, or if you know of people who would be interested, please complete the Nominations Form and contact the Co-Chairs of the Nominations Committee:
