THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT
OF SOCIAL WORK WITH GROUPS
KENTUCKY CHAPTER
2009 UPDATE
During the most of 2009, the Chapter was dormant. I struggled to organize and present programming as we have in the past due to the fact that there were very few of members willing to participate in the work to do so. However, due to a resurgence in energy in three members (Alison Johnson, Linda Hill, and Jean Kellett), we were able to offer a four part Fall series (once a month Aug through Nov) of three CEU workshops: Conservations with Social Work Clicinians About Working with Clients with Bi-Polar Disorder. Faclitatiors used the Social Work with Groups Metholdology to present and process the didactic and personal experience with participants who have or will experience with this client population. It was a success!
What shall we do in the Spring of 2010?
Will YOU HELP with the planning?
What do YOU want to know about working with groups in your work setting? When are YOU available?
What do YOU want to know about or experience or learn about social work methodology with group work?
My ideas (open to revision and willingness to present):
- Share and read a paper that has ‘grabbed you’ and discuss as a group. This could be a 1.5 hour CEU or expanded into a 3.0 CEU (there would be a charge) if there were experiential components that advance the learning (I‘ll help you design that part).
- specific 3.0 CEU presentations provided by members in the Chapter or parent organization members given their expertise (e.g. expressive techniques and groupwork, working with and maximizing conflict in group, working with substance abuse in group, women’s trauma, divorce, PTSD/military and groupwork strategies, etc.)
- another series on a set of groupwork responses to a specific topic such as grief, outdoor pursuits, developmental applications of goupwork principles. Who do you know that has expertise in this area?
- other???
HEY! Share your ideas!!!
